Stonefield Query for ALERE Version 3.3

We released version 3.3 of Stonefield Query for ALERE today. The list of new and enhanced features in version 3.3 is extensive; see the online help for complete details. Here are the major new features.

Report Designer

  • The new Formula Editor allows you to create your own formulas without using the Advanced Report Designer or customizing the data dictionary.
  • The new Show percentage of total option in the Format page of the Field Properties dialog automatically adds a new column to the report showing the percentage that the field is of the subtotal in detail lines, of the next level of grouping in subgroup footers, and of the grand total for group footers.
  • Turn on the new Show totals in group headers option in Step 5 of the Quick Report Wizard and the Options page of the Reports Explorer to display group totals in the group header rather than the group footer.
  • Stonefield Query now supports Crystal Reports reports. You can add them to Stonefield Query using the External Report Wizard.
  • The Preview window is no longer modal, meaning you can open multiple instances. Also, the new Preview reports in tabbed pages setting in the Options dialog allows you to determine whether different preview windows are used when you run more than one report or whether the reports appear as different tabs in the same preview window.
  • There are several new output options available. You can specify that a timestamp is added to the file created to prevent overwriting existing files, that the file emailed to someone shouldn't be deleted after the email is sent, and what filename to use for the emailed file.
  • Previous versions of Stonefield Query create a report as a PDF file when emailing the report to someone. You can now specify the type of file used as an attachment.
  • You can now specify that each group in a report should be output to a separate file or email and that the email address should come from a field in the report itself. This can be used, for example, to email invoices to customers; the report is grouped by customer name and includes the customer's email address, so each customer's records are emailed to them.
  • You can now sort fields in database order or alphabetical order in Step 2 of the report wizards.
  • You can now tell Stonefield Query to display in the Tables drop-down list only those tables related to tables already appearing in the selected list.
  • Reports are now stored as export files with an SFX extension in a folder structure that exactly matches the folders in the Reports Explorer.
  • The new Send summary queries to database engine setting in the Options dialog allows you to specify whether Stonefield Query or the database engine does data summarization. This may significantly improve the performance of certain types of reports.
  • The new Run report with no records option in Step 5 of the report wizards and the Options page in the Reports Explorer allows you to run a report when there are no records that match your conditions.

Stonefield Query for SageCRM Released

Stonefield Software Inc. is pleased to announce the first release of Stonefield Query for SageCRM (version 3.30.3420).

Below is a list of just some of the features in this release, please see the online help for a complete list of features.

SageCRM Specific Features

  • Stonefield Query for SageCRM supports SageCRM version 6.1 to 6.2 databases.
  • Comes with over 60 pre-defined reports! Almost all of the SageCRM Sample Reports have been recreated for you.
  • All SageCRM tables and fields will use your custom captions as defined by the SageCRM Administrator. This makes it easy to find the table or field that you are looking for.
  • Stonefield Query for SageCRM can report on custom SageCRM tables and fields as defined by the SageCRM Administrator.
  • Stonefield Query for SageCRM supports SageCRM 6.2 Related Entities (through the "Related A to B (6.2 and later)" tables where A is the first table in the relationship and B is the second table). In SageCRM 6.2, the Relationships tab is available in the context of Companies, People, Leads, Opportunities, Quotes, Orders, and Cases.
  • Stonefield Query for SageCRM supports SageCRM 6.1 and earlier "Related List Actions" (through the "Related * (6.1 and Earlier)" tables).
  • Stonefield Query for SageCRM automatically provides custom currency fields that convert from the SageCRM Base Currency (as set by the SageCRM Administrator) to the Preferred Currency that you have selected in the Stonefield Query "Tool->Options" menu.
  • SageCRM stores Date/Time fields in GMT(Greenwich Mean Time) in the database records and only converts these to your local time zone when you see these fields on screen in SageCRM. Stonefield Query provides "(GMT)" and "(Local Time)" versions of each Date/Time field in your database for this purpose.
  • SageCRM does not actually delete any records from the database when you delete a record in a SageCRM screen. Instead, these records have their "_Deleted" fields set to 1 indicating that they are deleted. Stonefield Query automatically hides these records for you so you do not see them in your reports.

Other Stonefield Query Features

  • Powerful query and reporting tool designed with the end-user in mind. Design reports in minutes, not hours or days.
  • Simple "wizard" interface. After selecting a report from the list of available reports, you can select the sort order, enter filter conditions, and specify where the output goes (printer, text file, spreadsheet, screen preview, etc.).
  • Full English descriptions for all fields and tables rather than cryptic names and symbols. English operators such as "equals" and "greater than" instead of "=" and ">."
  • Handles complex join conditions between tables automatically.
  • Create great-looking charts and graphs, either by themselves or included in other reports.
  • The Formula Editor allows you to define your own custom calculations to use in any report.
  • Templates give your reports a common appearance, such as following corporate style guidelines.
  • Easily create labels, including mailing labels, product labels, or barcode labels, without worrying about field positioning or label dimensions. All the common Avery label sizes are built-in.
  • Drilldown from a report to see details.
  • Click the "values" button to get a list of all possible values for any field.
  • Control font, color, alignment, heading, and column width for each field. Group on any field with a mouse click.
  • Automatically adjusts column widths to match the data in the column.
  • The Advanced Report Designer allows you to lay out the report exactly as you want, including company logos, lines, boxes, etc.
  • Output to Microsoft Excel, PDF, HTML, Microsoft Word, comma-delimited, or other types of files. You can also email reports.
  • Knows your data. You don't have to know how your data is stored or how tables are joined (you don't even have to know what a "join" is).
  • Schedule reports to run at any time you need.
  • Display "real" table and field names so it's easier to locate the table or field you want if you're familiar with these names.

Stonefield Query Version 3.3 Build 3418

We posted an update to Stonefield Query version 3.3 today. It has the following new features and bug fixes:

  • You can now use expressions in subtable filters and the relationship for complex joins. Do this by preceding the expression with "=" or enclosing the expression in curly braces ({ and }).
  • A new ReportEngine.SetupCrystalReport event script allows you to customize the set up of a Crystal report object just prior to running the report.
  • Months displayed when dates are formatted to display as Month are now localized.
  • A message box that displayed if you used the dynamic font style feature in a report was removed.
  • A bug that caused an error when bringing up the About dialog for an unactivated Configuration Utility was fixed.
  • Stonefield Query now uses 18 decimals places when retrieving data from the database to prevent decimal values from being rounded.
  • A bug that caused an error when reactivating an expired Configuration Utility license was fixed.
  • You no longer get an error if fields are included in the group header of a summary report (for example, because "Include all fields in same table in group header" is turned on) and you have a field with "Show percentage of total" turned on.
  • A bug that caused an error when Stonefield Query is run for the first time and a second user runs it without the first user closing it was fixed.
  • A bug that caused the wrong record to be used when evaluating expressions in the subject or body of an email when "Output each group as a separate email" is turned on was fixed.
  • The recipient for an email is blanked at the end of a report run when "Output each group as a separate email" and "Get email address from" are turned on.
  • A bug that caused an error when using a DateTime field formatted as Week in the column of a cross-tab report was fixed.
  • A bug that caused an error when there's a field with "Show % of total" turned on, "Run report with no records" is turned on, and the filter condition is such that there are no records was fixed.
  • The column headings in a cross-tab report created in earlier versions of Stonefield Query no longer display "  /  /  ".
  • A bug that caused an error when a field has "Show percentage of total" turned on and you sort on that field in descending order was fixed.
  • A bug that caused an error when a calculated date field is displayed as Week in a report with "Summary report" turned off was fixed.
  • The percentage value for a field with "Show percentage of total" turn on no longer appears formatted as the field (e.g. $999,999.99) but as expected (that is, 999.9%) when the report is converted to an advanced layout report.
  • A bug that caused an error when using a subtable with VFP data was fixed.
  • You no longer get an error in the Configuration Utility editing a field that has “Display field from related table” turned on and the name of the field to display from the related table has delimiters (for example, “DESC”).
  • Dragging a report or folder to a blank part of the reports list in the Reports Explorer no longer makes the report or folder disappear (it was a display issue only in previous versions: the report or folder reappeared the next time you started Stonefield Query).
  • The default setting for the “Preview reports in tabbed pages” option in the Options dialog is now turned on so it’s consistent with the behavior in version 3.2.
  • A bug that caused an error if you have a report with a numeric field with "Show percentage of total" turned on and a date field formatted to display as Month or Week was fixed.
  • Negative percentage values for fields with "Show percentage of total" turned on are now formatted properly.
  • Grouping on a field that’s in the same table as another grouped field that has “Include all fields in same table in group header” turned on now works properly.
  • Stonefield Query no longer gives a warning if you try to output more than 65,536 rows to a Microsoft Excel 2007 spreadsheet, since the limit is 1,048,576 (you will get a warning if you exceed that number). It will automatically change the file extension to “XLSX” because Excel requires that.

Stonefield Query SDK Version 3.3 Released

We released version 3.3 of the Stonefield Query SDK today. Other versions, such as for Sage Accpac ERP, Sage Pro, ACT!, and so on will be released over the next few weeks; watch our blog for release information.

The list of new and enhanced features in version 3.3 is extensive; see the online versions of the end-user help and SDK help for complete details. Here are the major new features.

Report Designer

  • The new Formula Editor allows you to create your own formulas without using the Advanced Report Designer or customizing the data dictionary.

  • The new Run report with no records option in Step 5 of the report wizards and the Options page in the Reports Explorer allows you to run a report when there are no records that match your conditions.

SDK

  • The data dictionary now supports versioning. This is useful if tables and fields were added to or removed from the database between versions and you have some users using an older version and some using a newer version but they're all using the latest version of your customized Stonefield Query. To prevent users from selecting tables and fields that may not exist in their version of the database, you can specify the version number for each table and field that doesn't exist in all versions.
  • Stonefield Query now supports scripting in VB.Net and C#.
  • Like us, you may have a blog or news feed describing changes to your application. However, most users don't read blogs. So, Stonefield Query now includes a built-in news reader. If you fill in the URL for News Feeds configuration setting with the URL for an RSS feed, the news reader is available to your users.
  • The Create Help Files function in the Configuration Utility now runs Stonefield Query and automates the generation of all customized screen shots, so there's no need to do that manually any more. That can save you a considerable amount of time.
  • You can now refresh a single database rather than all databases if you wish by selecting the Refresh Database function from the Objects or shortcut menus.
  • The new Number of Days for Demo Version configuration setting allows you to create a shorter demo period than the default 30 days if you wish.
  • The code window opened when you right-click the code for a script and choose Zoom now supports find capability. Right-click in the code window and choose Find from the shortcut menu. Also, when you choose Build Expression from the shortcut menu, the Stonefield Query Expression Builder is now used.
  • A new Test button in the database properties page of the Configuration Utility allows you to test that the connection settings are correct.
