A Windows update on October 10, 2017 caused the Microsoft Excel ODBC driver (specifically, the “Microsoft Excel Driver (*.xls)” driver) to stop working correctly. The solution is to use the “Microsoft Excel Driver (*.xls, *.xlsx, *.xlsm, *.xlsb)” driver instead.
